In an effort to assist families displaced by the Gulf Coast Hurricanes attain homeownership, the U.S. Dept. of Housing Urban Development will give evacuees the opportunity to buy HUD-owned properties at a discount. These families will be offered the opportunity to purchase the homes they are currently occupying at a discount of ten percent off the property's fair market value.

Between 2000 and 2004, the South saw a net migration of 1.4 million, mostly in the South Atlantic states of Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. The Northeast, and in particular the Mid-Atlantic states of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, saw a net loss of nearly 1 million between 2000 and 2004.

A developer announced plans to turn the site of the former Wolverine Power Supply Cooperative coal burning electric plant in Advance into an upscale luxury condo-marina development. In an industrial reclamation project akin to a micro Bay Harbor, Taylor would like to build 84 luxury condominiums on the site which boasts 1900 feet of lake frontage, with each condo to be approximately 2000 square feet in size, and with asking prices from $650-$850K.
